For all my fellow cheap skates, here is an interesting calculator to figure out how much you spend on "high dollar" coffee compared to just brewing a cup at home...

Sen. Bill Frist & His Congressional Deal to Benefit Drug Companies?

This newspaper report discusses recent legislation that was passed in some alleged back-room deal making without going through the full discussion process. Apparently language was added to legislation which will insulate (or at least protect) drug companies from litigation pertaining to damages caused by the consumption of newly manufactured drugs. The language was added to the bill on the 11th hour just before the Senate & House holiday breaks.
Seems kinda sneaky to me.

More on the Chinese Legal System

Here is another article dealing with China's poor criminal justice system. These quotes are particularly troubling:

"China executes people for 68 offenses, many nonviolent, including smuggling, tax evasion, corruption, "endangering national security" and separatism, which includes advocating Tibetan or Taiwanese independence;"

"In a recent reform, China introduced a national law exam for judges and imposed a 12-hour limit on police interrogation, down from 36 hours;" and

"In the late 1990s, China pioneered the use of mobile lethal-injection vans. Reports suggest their use is particularly common during anti-drug campaigns in the southern province of Yunnan. "
